Fiji and New Caledonia impress at table tennis
Table tennis was served up at the Harvest Centre, Faleata Sports Complex for the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games on the first day of competition on 8 July.
There was fierce competition but the spirit of fair play prevailed with the teams from 10 countries, all vying for medal placing in the men’s and women’s team events, scheduled to medal on 10 July, 2019.
Both the Fiji and New Caledonia women's and men's teams proved their dominance early on, and when faced off, the Fiji women's team won 3-2 over New Caledonia, whereas the New Caledonia men’s team won 3-2 of the Fiji men’s team.

Table tennis para program will feature both men's and women's ambulant and seated events.
There was impressive sportsmanship and skill displayed, although not always reflected on the score board where Tuvalu and Tonga put up great fights throughout the rounds, but unfortunately, did not always score the points.
Table tennis men and women's team events will continue at the Harvest Centre on 9 July,2019 from 9.00am and is free entry. From 11 July, 2019 the singles, doubles and para events will take centre stage, with medal matches on Saturday 13 July.
