Fiji couple win archery medals together
A Fijian sporting couple will be returning home with three medals between them after a successful Samoan 2019 XVI Pacific Games.
Lisa Leota and her husband Samoa-born Fred Tamavua Leota won two of the three gold medals up for grabs in the morning session on day 5 of the event at Faleata Sports Complex.
Lisa Leota had to settle for a silver in the women’s compound 50 meters, as New Caledonia's Cecile Picot, got gold.
Her second-placing was quickly followed by Fred Leota's winning gold in the 50 meters men’s individual compound.
They then combined forces to another golden performance in the mixed compound division.

Samoa’s Naifoua Vise Timai won her second bronze from the women’s single compound division and added one more bronze medal when she team up with Mathew Isara Levi Jr. Tauiliili in the compound mixed team division.
New Caledonia won the silver medal.
In other events, Samoa claimed gold in the mixed team recurve, with Tonga winning silver and New Caledonia bronze.
In the mixed team compound, Fiji triumphed, with New Caledonia in silver and Samoa winning bronze.
Jill Walter teaming up with father Muaausa Joseph Walter added Samoa’s second gold medal of the competition after a close final with Tonga’s Hans Arne Jensen and partner Meig Tuuakitau who settled for silver.
The bronze medal was taken by Anthony Clerte and team mate Isabelle Vermandex Dussol.
Earlier Jill Walter was denied a solo gold medal performance when she was out-scored by the New Caledonian Vernandex Dussol in the women’s recurve 70 meter with Isabelle Soero taking the bronze medal.
In the men’s recurve 70 meter finals, the gold went to Tahiti with Jean-Pierre Winkelstroeter. Robert George Elder got silver while Tahitian Thiry Tsoung Li ing won bronze.
