Meet the Directors of the Games Organising Committee

Tasked with the important mission of organising the XVI Pacific Games, the Games Organising Committee convened its first meeting today. 

There to open this milestone meeting was Games Convenor, Hon. Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi. The Hon. Prime Minister encouraged the Games Organising Committee to work together effectively to deliver a successful Games.

Consisting of 14 Directors, the Games Organising Committee is chaired by the Hon. Minister of Education, Sport and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio.

Hon. Minister Loau Keneti Sio welcomed each Director to their new role and challenged the Committee to rise up to the challenge. He acknowledged that while many host countries have upwards of five years to prepare to host the Games, Samoa is attempting to achieve the impossible in organising the Games with just over a year to go. 

Todays meeting provided an induction for all Directors. The agenda centred around clarifying the role and responsibilities of each individual Director. Each Director will oversee a key area of the Games such as catering; transport; accommodation; security; and health services, with support from the Pacific Games Office.

The hour long meeting concluded with the setting of the date for the next meeting. The Committee plan to meet regularly to share developments within each of their key areas.
