Official Handover of Games Venues
The Pacific Games Office hosted a special ceremony today to officiate the handing over of the Games Venues for Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was on site to deliver the keynote address for the ceremony.
“It is wonderful to be standing in this state of the art Multi-Sport Centre created through the generosity of the People’s Republic of China,” said the Prime Minister.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Chao Xiaoliang hands over the key to the Multi-Sport Centre to Prime Minister Tuilaepa at the handover ceremony.
“The construction of this building as well as the refurbishment of the Samoa Aquatic Centre, Apia Park Stadium and Tennis Court is a major part of China’s support for Samoa 2019 Pacific Games.”
Prime Minister Tuilaepa acknowledged Government of China for their assistance as well as the workers and engineers from Anhui Construction and Shanghai Construction, who have been working tirelessly to complete the construction of the Multi-Sport Centre and renovations of sports facilities ahead of the Games next month.
The building of this Multi-Sport Centre aligns with the government's vision to grow Faleata as the sports hub of Samoa and the Pacific region. It also falls in line with the Development Strategy for a healthier Samoa and sports is a key driver to achieving this outcome.
The Multi-Sport Centre consists of two state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor netball courts built to international specifications. It also has the capacity to host badminton, basketball, table tennis, boxing and other indoor sports.
The Multi-Sport Centre is said to be one of the main attractions for Samoa 2019 as well as future international tournaments and tests.
