Rugby 7s releases draw for XVI Pacific Games
The Pacific Games Office is proud to announce the Rugby 7s draw for Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games.
Twelve countries will compete in Rugby 7s over the two-day (12-13 July) tournament at Apia Park Stadium.
The tournament kicks off at 1000hrs on 12 July with Fiji v Solomon Islands in the women’s competition.
Seeding for the draw was decided on rankings from the 2018/2019 HSBC Sevens Series; rankings from Oceania Sevens Championships; and the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.
Sports Services Manager Taupau Alex Mikaele said: “Rugby 7s at the Pacific Games is set to be an exciting competition following the success of Pacific teams internationally recently. We are pleased to be welcoming such high-calibre teams to Samoa.”
Women’s competition
For the women’s competition, teams are placed in two pools of four teams. Within each pool, all teams play each other (three matches per team). Quarterfinals will be played after pool matches. The winners of the quarterfinal matches proceed to the semi-final matches. The winners of the semi-final matches proceed to the Gold medal match and the losing teams to the Bronze medal match.
Men’s competition
For the men’s competition, teams are placed in two pools of five teams. Within each pool, all teams play each other (four matches per team).
Following the completion of pool round, knock-out rounds will be played. The top teams in each pool proceed to the Gold medal match. The 2nd ranked teams in each pool proceed to the Bronze medal match.

The Pacific Games is a multi-sport event held every four years since 1963, and is contested between the Pacific Island nations associated with the Pacific Games Council.
The XVI Pacific Games will be held from 7-20 July 2019 in Samoa. It is set to attract more than 4,000 participants from 24 Pacific Island countries including New Zealand and Australia.
