Sport preview: Va'a
Eighteen nations will be battling it out on the open water in va'a, the traditional outrigger canoe paddling of the Pacific, on day 2 of Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games.
The four-day competition begins on 9 July at 9am at Sheraton Samoa Beach Resort Mulifanua, which neighbour's Samoa's main airport and is about an hour's drive from Apia.
The competition will be in V1, V6 and V12 format for men and women.
The first day is V12, over the 500m distance. Tahiti and Papua New Guinea women's team had a close race four years ago at Port Moresby 2015 XV Pacific Games, with Papua New Guinea edging out Tahiti by less than one second to take gold. Both teams will be back on the water today.
