Sports Preview: Archery
Archery is the sport to look out for at the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games on day 2.
All the attention will be on the Prime Minister of Samoa, Afioga Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi. He qualified to represent Samoa after participating in trials held in May 2019.
This isn’t the first time he has participated in the international event - he also represented Samoa in archery when the Pacific Games were last hosted in his home country in 2007.
He'll be hoping to repeat his podium finish from 2007 at the very least.
Archery is a free event, running over four days at the archery field with Faleata Sports Complex.
It was not included in the competition schedule at the Pacific Games four years ago in Papua New Guinea, and last featured in New Caledonia XIV Pacific Games in 2011.
It is now making its return to the Pacific Games circuit with 12 Pacific island countries (Fiji Island, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Australia, New Caledonia, Tahiti and Tonga) to be competing in 10 different medal events.
