Students excited by ceremony choir involvement
Students from Pesega College are relishing the opportunity to sing in the choir for the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games Opening and Closing ceremonies.
“It’s a really good experience for the students to be involved in the choir in [the biggest] event that has ever happened here in Samoa,” said student Meafou Fiaui.
For Meafou, a young and passionate singer, performing at one of the largest sporting events in the Pacific is something that she had never imagined.
“Music class teaches you about notes and things like that, but going to the big stage you learn different kinds of voices,” she says.
“You have to know the different people that have different parts in the choir in order for you to know your part.”

She continued: “I know the preparations in representing our country. It is a good experience for all of us and we will never forget.”
It is the first time Pesega College has been involved in the choir and to take this responsibility on board has been rewarding for the students.
“This music practice takes time from doing schoolwork, but if you put hard work into it, this is the starting point of having a career path in music. They say the sky is the limit, but passion is what gets us to what we dream for.”
Anya Jessop, a Year Ten student at Pesega, believes music plays an enormous role in people and their lives.
“I love music so much, I sing and play piano,” she says.
“Music is my life. I want to be an artist to develop a good career in the future. This is a great opportunity to represent our country and to know different people from the 24 countries.”
She added: “Sometimes it is hard to stay home and do work and come to school to practice but it is all worth it.”
