Volunteers thanked for Games commitment as training starts
Volunteers for Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games have been welcomed by the Pacific Games Office CEO as training ramps up ahead of July.
Hundreds of volunteers from across the Samoan Government have registered to help before and during the Games, which officially kick off with the Opening Ceremony on 7 July and run for two weeks.
Falefata Hele Matatia, CEO of the Pacific Games Office, told volunteers at the first team leader training at the Faleata Sports Complex last week: "You are the most important part of the Games. Without you there would be no Games. People are what make these Games, so we are filled with gratitude for your contribution and commitment. Thank you."

He also acknowledged the ministry heads for supporting the Games by allowing staff to become involved. Their support means the Games will run smoothly, he said.
With the Games covering 20 venues, 27 sports, and 24 countries, volunteers are needed in every operational area – from airport arrivals, catering at the Games Village, media assistance, through to medal ceremonies and numerous other essential tasks.
The government volunteers, organised by the Public Service Commission, are in addition to many sport volunteers who have been recruited by individual sport federations.
The weeks ahead will involve more training and continuing volunteer coordination.
